A tower designed as a tribute. Built at the summit of Mount Hereford, the new observation tower honors the legacy of Neil Tillotson and his contribution to the mountain's preservation. Standing over 17 meters tall, the structure offers views of the White Mountains and, on a clear day, as far as Mount Washington.
The challenge
Building such a unique structure at the top of a mountain presented challenges in both geometry and accessibility. The pentagonal foundation, the precise positioning of the steel structure's anchors, and the platforms rotating around five circular columns required exceptionally precise execution. Added to this was a steep access path that limited the transport of materials and equipment to the site.
Our approach
Every step was carefully considered in light of the summit's realities. The transport and pouring of concrete were adapted to the access constraints, while the design of certain components was adjusted to facilitate their delivery and on-site assembly. Close coordination with specialized partners also made it possible to integrate the steel structure, railings, and structural glass flooring into the tower's unique geometry.
Results
Our work brought to life a structure that had to be as technically precise as it was architecturally bold. Despite the terrain's constraints and the complexity of its geometry, every component found its place to create a distinctive landmark, designed to blend into its environment and offer visitors a new perspective on Mount Hereford and the surrounding landscape.
