Two parallel bridges, five spans each, and over 300 meters to cross. Built as part of Highway 410, the new structures span the Massawippi River, a railway line, and Winder Street. Their construction required a wide range of expertise, from deep pile foundations to the installation of the steel structure and the pouring of the concrete decks.

The challenge

The geometry of the deck presented a unique technical challenge. In addition to following a curve for over 300 meters, its width varied throughout the alignment. Each bay had its own specific characteristics, making it impossible to use the same formwork solution from one section to the next.

Our approach

Rather than adapting a standard method on-site, the teams individually planned the engineering and fabrication of the formwork for each bay. The supports were prefabricated according to their precise location on the deck to follow its curvature and variations in width. This custom approach made it possible to orchestrate the construction of a structure with complex geometries.

Results

The two new structures now allow Highway 410 to cross several major obstacles along a single route. The planning and prefabrication work carried out in advance made it possible to realize the unique geometry of the decks and bring to life two major structures integrated into the Eastern Townships road network.
