Giving a space a new function without losing its history. For the new St-Georges – Structures et Civil offices, the interior design was conceived around the existing character of the space. The original wood floors and architectural columns were preserved and integrated into the new environment to create modern offices that highlight the elements defining the building's identity.

The challenge

Working with existing features required special attention for every intervention. The wood floors, in particular, had to survive the entire construction process without damage so they could be restored at the end of the project. Added to this was the creation of custom suspended slats, an architectural element requested by the client to give several offices a distinctive signature.

Our approach

Rather than working around the building's unique features, the teams made them an integral part of the execution. Existing surfaces were carefully protected throughout the project before being restored to their former glory. The suspended slats were custom-crafted by our cabinetmakers and installed directly by our foreman to ensure the desired finish down to the smallest detail.

Results

The new layout strikes a balance between the historic character of the space and the needs of a modern work environment. Original elements now sit alongside custom contemporary interventions, providing the St-Georges – Structures et Civil team with functional offices that retain all of the building's personality.
