A wider bridge to make room for new ways of getting around. Built to replace the aging structure over the Yamaska River, the new Route 241 bridge doubles the width of the old one and now includes a sidewalk and a bike path. Its reconstruction is part of a broader redevelopment of the area aimed at improving mobility and traffic flow in Bromont.

The challenge

Several constraints had to be managed under and around the new structure. The city's main sewer and water lines crossed the site of the new retaining wall and had to be temporarily diverted. At the same time, traffic had to be maintained in this busy tourist area throughout the duration of the work.

Our approach

The various interventions were sequenced to allow for the temporary diversion of municipal services while maintaining traffic flow in the area. Temporary retaining structures were installed to create the space needed for construction without interrupting traffic. Careful planning of the different phases allowed the project to progress despite the many activities that had to continue around it.

The new bridge now provides infrastructure better suited to different road users. With the addition of a sidewalk and a bike path, the structure helps create a more accessible link between Bromont's sectors, while preparing Route 241 for the broader transformation of this intersection.
